SUNO AI Music Generation App Pilot Program

  • column

Sure, people say "making music with AI is easy," but when you actually have to work through auto-generated lyrics and AI output to craft something decent, it takes a fair amount of time. In fact, this app is one you can count on to make you lose track of time because it's just too much fun.

In the US, major record labels are filing lawsuits and there are unsettling rumors reminiscent of Napster, but honestly if it's fun that's what matters, right? I think it's an irresistible tool for music lovers. Though I'm kind of scared of where this goes from here... I spent last week's nights and weekends on it, but with concerns about token limits and sleep deprivation, I've decided to leave it alone until next month. Anyway, it would be a shame not to share what I've learned and the results, so here goes.

Episode 0

At first I was just playing around with it lol. It automatically creates music just from the title, you know?

Small business owner

A gloomy CEO or something lol

Liberogic Company Song or whatever lol

We used to make songs about people and laugh about them together, but then things got more elaborate. Like, can we do this? ordinary elation and stuff, and eventually we got ambitious—

No.1

Rhythm

A track made in the style of FM STATION with a toori-toori-toot vibe, finished with one extend. It's got that retro Showa feel and turned out really well.

No.2

Capricious Cat

We generated cat lyrics with GPT and adjusted the endings and everything way too much. We were going for cute but ended up with something more funky Hoshino Gen-ish, so we switched it to a spoiled-girl vibe instead. There are a bunch of other versions too.

・This was supposed to be the original one actually… Cat Teased

・Then we ended up with a Tomita Lab + Kirinji style version Cat Kirinji

・And a Takao Tajima type version Tajima Neko

・And various others

It's pretty tough to create something you want by making tons of songs, tweaking the lyrics where they don't fit, and generating alternative tracks.

No.3

Together la-la-la

I was trying to make something like Paprika, but after experimenting with female vocals and other stuff, it turned into something completely different. But since the chorus drops into a minor key and sounds pretty professional, I went with it! Finished it in two extends!

No.4

Night Butterfly

I wanted to make something that sounds like Shiina Ringo, so I had GPT fix the lyrics for "Night Lady" over and over. I spent forever adjusting to get the SKA vibe right, and ended up with something about album-filler quality. The soft laugh at the end turned out great. The FADEOUT tag barely gets read - anyway, I've picked up the knack and how to do it, so I can explain if you're interested. Though honestly it's not that difficult, lol ♪ I've come to the conclusion for now that I shouldn't do a restock! Or so I thought...

No.5,6

Darn it, I was making enka songs all the time, so I just had to create some English lyrics in my favorite taste, and before I knew it I'd stayed up until 5 AM! So I'm releasing two hardcore tracks that follow the mathrock vein! Making lyrics with GPT is tough.

Ordinary Life

Whatever

I made something super cool! I'm not doing this anymore! Time just disappears! Seriously, I'm not doing this anymore!

So there we have it - rough around the edges!

I don't think it'll resonate with anyone who isn't into music, lol~
