Web accessibility: why it matters

Web accessibility is not
"nice to have"
—it's
essential

Anytime, anywhere, for everyone. Making accessible web the standard.
Improved usability for all users, expanded business results,
enhanced corporate value, and risk mitigation.
Web accessibility is
an essential business strategy in modern digital commerce.

Why start now?

Globally, legal risks are becoming tangible, and in Japan, legislative changes are increasing demands for compliance.
However, looking at it from another angle, now is the moment to gain a competitive advantage as an early adopter, when few companies have yet implemented it.

The earlier you begin,
"the greater the benefits"

Risks of
delaying action

  1. Damage to brand reputation
  2. Missed opportunities
  3. Increased costs for individual accommodations
  4. Legal risk

Benefits of taking action now

  1. Brand value enhancement
  2. Reaching potential customers
  3. Operational efficiency
  4. Risk mitigation

Web accessibility compliance is more than just a regulatory requirement.
By acting early, you can fulfill your social responsibility, expand business opportunities, and prevent future cost escalation.
It is no longer something to do "if resources permit," but rather a strategic business priority to address now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

How much does this service cost?

Costs vary by plan. Our "Light Plan," which provides basic issue identification, starts at ¥50,000. Our "Standard Plan," which includes detailed diagnosis and inspection certification, starts at ¥200,000. We can also provide implementation support after diagnosis, or handle new design creation through to comprehensive accessibility compliance. Pricing varies based on site scale, complexity, and additional requirements, so we'll provide a quote during a free consultation.
Q

What is the difference between "WCAG" and "JIS X 8341-3:2016"?

WCAG is the global standard for accessibility established by W3C. JIS X 8341-3:2016 adopted "WCAG 2.0," which was recommended in 2008, for the Japanese context, but its content is now outdated. In contrast, the newer WCAG 2.1/2.2 is optimized for today's web environment, addressing smartphone interaction, low vision, and cognitive accessibility considerations.
Q

Should we adopt "WCAG" or "JIS X 8341-3:2016" as our standard?

Except where JIS compliance is required by public sector procurement rules, we recommend "WCAG 2.1/2.2." By following the latest standards, you not only prepare for future JIS revisions but also ensure improved usability on mobile devices.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Guidelines for Operation of Public Websites by Everyone (2024 Edition) (PDF / 4.2MB)" also explicitly states, "With an eye toward future JIS revisions, build to WCAG 2.2 achievement criteria to the greatest extent possible." Adopting the latest standards is becoming the conventional approach domestically.
Q

How are the pages for assessment selected?

We select pages based on "WCAG-EM," an internationally recognized evaluation methodology. We combine the major templates that comprise your site (structured samples) with random sampling to prevent oversights. Rather than arbitrarily increasing page count, our experts carefully select "meaningful 10-20 pages," enabling efficient and highly accurate assessment.
Q

Is 10–20 pages sufficient for a diagnostic audit?

Yes, if your goal is to "improve the overall quality of your site." Government procurement tenders typically require JIS testing with 40+ pages to generate compliance certification as evidence, but our WCAG-EM approach specializes in quality management—understanding site-wide trends and improving quality efficiently. This reduces costs while accurately identifying issues across your entire site.
Q

How long does an audit take?

For a standard corporate site (10–20 page sample audit), we typically deliver the initial report within 10–15 business days from audit start. Timelines vary depending on site complexity and volume. If you need results sooner, please contact us in advance.
Q

What are VPAT and ACR?

VPAT is an accessibility evaluation template; ACR is an actual report created using that template. Evolved from U.S. government procurement standards, this global format serves as an "information disclosure document" for B2B transactions, allowing companies to detail their product's compliance status. The defining feature is emphasis on "transparency"—clearly stating where limitations exist and how they are being addressed.
Q

Is there value in creating a VPAT/ACR for domestic Japanese sites?

Yes, it builds trust through transparent disclosure. Having a detailed document that goes beyond a simple pass/fail statement demonstrates a company's commitment to integrity. It serves as powerful evidence for prospective clients evaluating your service adoption, and as a valuable tool for IR and ESG investment disclosures.
Q

How should I fix the issues found in an audit?

We provide concrete improvement recommendations at the source code level. With our premium plan, our engineers can also handle the implementation directly. Our greatest strength is the ability to solve accessibility issues while maintaining your existing design and brand identity—that execution capability sets us apart.
